I have updated my wantlist and 'what I collect' pages to the right. In the 'what I collect' area, I have added a few players that I have decided to start pulling out of my collection and add them into my personal collection.
These are:
Kirby Puckett, Tony Gwynn and Frank Thomas for retired players.
Josh Hamilton, Danny Valencia and Chris Coghlin for active players.
Why Coghlin? Well, I have a few nice hits of his plus he was the 2009 NL Rookie of the Year, that has to count for something right?
I have also updated my 2011 Topps Chrome list. I still need a decent amount to finish it off and maybe you can help. I have a plethora of 2011 cards over here and perhaps you need some. I am willing to trade up to ten cards per one card you send me off my want list.

a trade post
A trade post? Haven't done one in too long. I should post more of these, as I get many great trades. More often than not it is usually stuff I need for sets and plain old base cards are boring! Well, I am super appreciative of every card I get in a trade but some trades stand out. Especially when it involves cards you really want (like ones that get posted and you ask if they are for trade) as opposed to cards you need to slim the old want list. I'll be highlighting two such trades right now:
The first comes from Shane over at the Off the Wall blog. Here is what he sent over:
Many of you have traded with Shane before but this is actually the first time we had ever exchanged cards. The Munson was the focal point of the trade. I had seen his want list for 1975 Topps and he needed the Jim Palmer card I had. He had said the Munson was a duplicate, so I mentioned I had the Palmer. I sent that over plus some minis which he loves, and some stuff from his set needs and some random Red Sox. There were many more Blue Jays in the return package and a lot of oddball stuff I needed like the baseball highlights and Drake's cards, along with yearbook stickers and Topps Big. The black refractor is from 2002, which I have ZERO refractors for, nevermind black. Oh yeah and the Jimmy Key rookie that I didn't have yet either. I assume the three auto'd cards up top are either TTMs or in person autos. Good stuff either way. The Munson also marks the first I have from his playing days. Always good.
The second trade comes from Ryan over at "O" No!!! Another Orioles Blog. Ryan and I have traded a few times now. Check out what he had sent over:
Two cards but what cards they are. He pulled the Teixeira from his box of 2007 Goudey and I had mentioned that I was interested. It was a while ago, and we hadn't made a deal but Ryan didn't forget. Once he posted up the Willie Mays, I Knew I wanted to try and trade for it. He was interested in the Ripken bat and Markakis auto I pulled from Gypsy Queen. Those, along with stuff from his want lists, various Orioles and some other surprises made their way over to him. He should be getting that package any day now.
A big thanks to Ryan and Shane for the great cards they sent over. I'm looking forward to more trades in the future!
Also: I need card 18, Christy Mathewson from Gypsy Queen. I need multiples. Three to be exact. The first person to send over three copies of the card (regular card, not a parallel or mini) gets something awesome. Three base cards, it's all I ask. Let me know!

caught up!
I am officially all caught up over here. As you well know, my place in the hobby has slowed considerably. For the past month or so, I have all but completely neglected my miscellaneous stacks of cards here (with the sole exception of stuff I sold on eBay) and it got, well...a bit out of hand. Cards everywhere, for different purposes, reasons and whatever else. I took yesterday as a 'catch up' day and sort through everything. I had stuff like doubles (which some turned out not to be doubles), cards for people who I contacted but got no response from (I tend to pull cards before I contact someone about their wantlists), and cards in boxes that I thought I wanted to do nothing with. Like I said, a bit of everything. I sorted, checked, condensed, put away...all very good things.
Now, with all that said, is there anyone else that needs 2011 Topps and 2011 Heritage? I would really like to clear out some of this excess before my next project, which I'll talk about in a minute. So please, if you have a want list for anything 2011, let me know and I'll see what I have. That includes all base cards and inserts from 2011 series 1, and a good stack of Heritage. I didn't chase any of the inserts from series 1, so they are all up for grabs (and I have many). In return I am really looking to finish up my Heritage set but if you don't have any that I need or to spare, I'll definitely think of something but I would really like to clear some space over here.
Next- the project. I have seen many of you post up trade bait and I am going to do the same...with a twist though, and some input from you guys. First, how it will be done is by division. I believe I will post up the division on either Sunday or Monday (which ever I get time to do), try and work deals out in the week and have the cards shipped on Saturday. Much easier for me to ship on Saturdays. Now, what I need from you. What do I include in these posts? At first I thought just relics and autographed cards but then while sorting yesterday, I noticed I had some good stuff that didn't have writing or a jersey on it. Stuff that's numbered, refractors, shiny (from a non-shiny set), short-prints, etc. YOU tell me. Tell me what you want to see in a trade bait post and I'll do my best to see what I have available. Then, once the deals I am talking to some of you about and any future ones about the 2011 stuff are done, I'll start posting the trade bait after hearing your feedback and putting the cards together.

down but not out
Well almost a week without a post has to be some kind of bad record for me. I've never gone that long without posting but there has been literally nothing going on over here. Work has been slow still and we anticipate the month of April being this way the whole way through. No packs or single have been bought. No eBay. Nothin'. Well, nothing but a few trades. That's the best kind of mail, trade mail! I have made a few trades with some peeps helping me finish up the Heritage set. A package of them came today from Steve over at The Card Chop. We did a 'stack for stack' kind of deal and it worked out well for the both of us. I haven't gotten to sending out the cards yet but they'll go out on Saturday. A few more deals are in the works and if you have any Heritage I need, let me know. I'll trade for 'em. The list is fully current as to what I need. I also received something really cool in the mail the other day but I'm saving it for a future post so I have something to write about.

how christy found a new home

Well, how about the story of how this card found its way into my collection:
As I posted the other day when I revealed the back of this card, the shop I got this from has a Facebook page. He had posted that he got this, along with a few other vintage cards, from a guy who stopped by the shop. I almost disregarded the other cards (amongst them a 1956 Hank Aaron, a Mantle and a couple league leader cards with big names on them from the early 60s) and immediately asked him where these had come from. He told me and I asked him in a message how much he was asking for the Mathewson. He said he was going to put $500 on it but he would take $400. The card books high at $1200. I felt this was a more than fair price but I could not spend that much on one single card, no matter the age or player. I couldn't not own it either though. Hmm...what to do...what to do... Well thinking nothing short of robbing him for it, I decided to take the legal way and do the only thing I knew how to... Trade for it! Yes, coming up with that much in trade value (plus cards that he can actually sell) would be a daunting task. I don't really have much on that front. No big old cards worth hundreds or auto/relics numbered to 3 of say, Babe Ruth. So what do I do? Then I remembered the 'in the works' 1954 Topps set. Good old Topps, you've finally done right by me. I had to come up big and make it worth his while but at the same time, not destroy my set in progress. This is what I ended up pulling out:
Yep, Ted Williams card 250, Whitey Ford and Billy Martin. All went bye-bye. Like I mentioned, Christy books at $1200. The above three cards book at $1300 (Ted at $1000, Ford at $200 and Billy at $100), which are high book even though these aren't. Those plus the couple of Red Sox and Yankees relics I added in and the Christy was mine (plus that Jays printing plate I showed the other day too). The logic being that while T-206 cards are incredibly awesome and instantly add luster to any sales showcase, the market for them is somewhat limited. They are old and expensive and many collectors either don't care for anything older than this year or they just don't have the cash to plunk down on a card like that. Yankees and Red Sox cards however, sell like mad up here and having those three vintage cards in his case should prove to be a good deal for him. He is a great guy and I've made deals with him before but never for anything this big (the last trade we did involved a 300 or so count box of Sox/Yankees in which I traded for a 1970 Hank Aaron he had priced at $20). They sell, so he wants 'em. I usually save some of the good ones for you Sox and Yankee fans on here, so no need to think I'm cleaned out.
So back to my story. This is where the 'replacements' part comes in. I obviously couldn't have holes in my set that I really really want to finish, so I simply replaced them. For as cheap as possible. The cards that you see scanned above are the replacement cards. The Martin and Williams came today and Ford came on Tuesday. I paid $100 for Ted (which was graded until about an hour ago), $30 for Ford and $15 for Billy. Meaning I essentially paid $145 for the Mathewson, when on eBay they never go lower than $300. These three cards are also in about the same (or in the case of Ted, better centered) condition as the three I traded out. I think overall this turned out good for him but way better for me.

trade with smed, leads to...
...I'll get to that. First things first. I completed a trade with Scott from Smed's Baseball Card Blog. I checked out his wantlists and he sent over his Excel files that contained all the cards he needed. After scouring them for a few days, I found over 400 cards to send over to him. I checked out his tradebait and found a few cards I was interested in. The Frank Thomas relic, the Mel Ott patch, and any Jays he may have.
I was awestruck when I opened up the package to see the two Jays patches above. The two patches I was waiting and watching on eBay, trying to win for a good price. Didn't need to any more. This card was the one I wanted most though:
I saw this and thought having it would be awesome. It is my second HOF auto (I'll show the other one soon, who is actually another Cub), and it led me to go and seek out this on eBay:

My first trifectica.
Well, first non-Jays trifectica. For those who may not be sure, a trifectica is when you have three cards of a player; the rookie, a relic and an autograph. I have many 2/3rds of some good trifecticas that I may have to complete sometime soon. Banks being my first is definitely a good start. Thanks so much to Smed's and I hope your box has found its way to you by now.

vernon on the left coast
So. It seems that Vernon has been traded. The only active player I currently collect. The guy I thought to myself, just two weeks ago, would be the perpetual Blue Jay. Who would probably retire as a Jay. Nope. No longer. He got traded to these guys:
Oh sure, its a logo they no longer use from the 70's but it gets the point across. Now, upon hearing this news, I immediately thought of my collection. What would I do with it now? I can't possibly collect him any longer because he doesn't play for Toronto. Then I thought about things logically. Would folk who collect Ken Griffey Jr. no collect him because he got traded from the Mariners to the Reds? Maybe a few but I'm willing to bet the majority would stick by him and collect him as a player they enjoy watching and following. I decided to continue collecting him no matter where he ends up.
Logically it also makes sense for the team itself. By not having to pay his hefty contract, they are free to buy up some younger talent and build a young, competitive team. A team that can hopefully contend with the likes of the ultra tough AL East. The Yankees and Sox are always on top. Baltimore had a really horrible start to the 2010 season but really picked up steam towards the end and I feel they will be a major competitor this coming season. Tampa Bay seems to be in shambles but they did pick up two aging sluggers in Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez but we'll see if that does anything for them. All in all, while I am not fully a fan of this trade, I do know and understand why Toronto did what they did. Its just good business. I wish Mr. Wells the best in LA (or California or Anaheim or what ever they want to be called this year) and I'll poke my head around to see how he fares over there.

argyle trade (plus posey update)
A trade post?? Its been too long since I've posted one and I'll strive to do more in this year. So I checked out Plaschke, Thy Sweater is Argyle and his want list. I noticed I had many 1989 Topps he needed for his set. I put them all together, added some Dodgers stuff and sent the box on its way. In return, he sent me some Jays for my ever growing Blue Jays collection. Seriously, I must be up to almost 4000 so far. Below are four of my favorites from the contents:
Yes, that is a 1990 Jimmy Key. Jimmy was my favorite player growing up so any card of his is always welcomed. The Wells mini is fantastic too (more on him tomorrow). The Hentgen is kind of a cool swirly shiny, while the Halladay is just flat awesome (I assume this is the card you hoped I didn't have, which I don't). Thanks a bunch for adding to the box, it seems to never stop growing!
In other news, "Posey Watch" is in full effect.
I listed him up on eBay last night. Its going rather well and I anticipate it to end around $200. We'll see.

so much mail!!
The mail came today, as it does every non-holiday, with around five small envelopes/packages. There was also one yesterday. I'll start with that one:
1956 Hank Aaron and 1963 Bill Mazeroski. Its a damn crime that I snagged the Maz for 99 cents, but the Hank came at $30. Still a great price. The seller had these and some other vintage stuff, including some 54s that I had wanted the most. I lost on the 54s but no one touched these two.
Up next are from two different sellers:
The bottom and the one on the top numbered 240, I got from the same seller, for a total of $2.55. The other one numbered 155, I got for a buck. Under four bucks for three Vernon autos? Yes please.
Speaking of autos:
Mr. 'almost-perfect-game', Armando Galarraga from 2008 Topps Chrome. Another card I got for 99 cents. It "books" at $20, but we all know what that means. I watched that game, well the end of it at least, and it was definitely some history there.
History?:
Some '54 Cubs for the set. In pretty good shape for the $4.78 I got them for.
The final package was from Julie over at Things Are Funner Here. It was a package filled with Jays goodness, in response to my sending over some extra Halladays. I haven't had a chance to go through them to see what I need yet, but it is all greatly appreciated and looks like its a great stack of stuff I don't have for the Jays box. Thanks a bunch!
(and thanks to eBay, or rather, thanks to the bidders who ignored all these great auctions and allowed me to win them for cheap)

recent trades-update
I didn't get a chance to explain why the four cards I chose from each of those trades were significant. I was busy earlier when I originally posted and I wasn't sure if I would have the time tonight to go over it, but I do now, so I will. On with the cards!
Here we have some of Ryan's former cards. I always enjoy getting Blue Jays minis, be it from packs or trades. When I posted that busting of the Upper Deck X blaster I got at discount from Wal-Mart, I mentioned that I liked the X-Ponential inserts, and the Wells is no different. The Bowman Shawn Green is probably one of the 'loudest' cards I've gotten in a while. IT is from the mid-90s so it makes sense. As for the silver signed Molitor, I collected the Collector's Choice set back when it came out. I would rush down to the locally run convenience store, grab a few packs and scurry home to open them up. I always loved getting the silver sig. cards in those packs, and this is a good recollection of my youth (there were actually two more in the box with Molitor too).
Here are the ones from Kerry. I started collecting Griffey a few months back, and its always fun to get one of him in a White Sox uniform, due to him not being there for long. I don't have many Jays Cansecos, so those are always good. I have never seen Leaf 1996, so I felt I had to show it. Finally, the Hentgen card looks like a bad (good?) acid trip, and definitely look straight out of the mid-90s (which it is).

1954 topps
Is anyone collecting or just have a bunch of 1954 Topps? I was picking cards up at the last show I went to and ended up with these two duplicates. I would be willing to trade them off for other '54s if you have any that I don't. Doesn't matter what or what condition (as long as its not torn or missing parts or something) really as long as it is something I don't have. Send me a comment or message to let me know.

sailors
I recently won the 10 card Sailors of the Seven Seas set on eBay, and now have the one I got out of my box (number SSS10, Juan Ponce de Leon) is for trade. This is the insert set I liked best from Ginters and I don't really plan on buying much (if any) more. Its an alright product, just not something I plan on collecting seriously. I do have many base cards, and a couple of short prints, so if you have a want list, send it my way and I'll see what I have and we can work on a trade from there.

quick post
Just a short post here, I've got a box of Ginter to bust open and it needs to happen. Right now. I received a trade package from Shellie over at the middle child, and as per my trades thus far, it had many Blue Jays and some Topps golds, and even some Opening Day blues. Definitely some good stuff, I needed about 97% of the cards she sent over, which is always good in a 'I'll take any Jays you have' type of trade. A big thanks to Shellie, your cards should arrive very soon (if not already). I'll be posting the results of the Ginter box tomorrow. Stay tuned.

it came from....the mailbox!
My internet is on the fritz, so I'll be brief. I received a trade package in the mail today from Colbey over at CardboardCollections. We had been going back and forth playing email tag for a little while now. I participated in his group break, and we waited until that was finished up. I kept getting more series 2 and Opening Days he needed so I wanted to get as many cards over to him in one shot. He found a TON of Jays stuff I needed (many Upper Deck were obtained), and even finished my 2010 Topps Opening Day set with card 127, Scott Kazmir. He also sent over some 2010 golds, some blue Opening Days, a couple of Target retros and the series 2 Nolan Ryan short print, which shows him throwing a football. Amusing. About it for now, a big thanks to Colbey for the goods, and I hope the box I sent has much you need inside.

it came from....the mailbox!
MAIL DAY!! So I received two trade packages in the mail today, both of them filled with baseball greatness. The first came from Mike over at BA Benny's Baseball Card Buffet. It was stuffed full of Jays, some 2010 Topps golds, Topps Chromes, Heritages and other great cards. The second was from Larry over at Emerald City Diamond Gems. His box was FILLED with various Blue Jays cards, I opened it and a mountain of cards fell out. TONS of earlier Jays I needed, some newer ones as well, and with very few duplicates (out of stuff I already had). I'm too lazy to scan today, but believe me when I say that I am MORE than happy with these two trades, thanks a TON guys (Larry your package is on its way!).

train kept a rollin'
Mail Day!! I received another trade package in the mail today, this time from Sean over at Condition: Poor. I sent him over some Mets stuff and this is what he sent back:
...and I couldn't be happier. It started with his post of opening up some Topps Series 2 packs and pulling the Aaron Hill jersey. The trade just went on from there. I've shown some of the favorites from this trade above, i'll explain why. The Aaron Hill was the main focus, as I like relics of Jays players. The two vintage cards are great due to the Callison only being my third 1960 Topps card, and the 1964 Altman is great simply due to the fact is has some "updated" facts about him on the front (or whatever the kid wrote). There were more vintage cards in the pile as well, like the smaller card on the bottom right (I forget what these are called, but it is cool). The other Aaron Hill (Bowman Heritage) is there just because I'm a big fan of this set. Jesse Carlson on the other hand is there due to where he is from. He hails from a small town called Kensington Connecticut. This town is a mere 3 miles from where I live, and I thought it was pretty cool that he grew up so close to here and made it all the way to The Show. There are three more fellows that made it from my area that I will go into in a future post. Thats all for now, and another big thanks to Sean.

eight days a week
Mail day! I received my first trade package today from Ryan over at "O" No!!! Another Orioles Blog. It was filled with various Blue Jays and some series 2 2010 golds (all the golds were numbered anywhere from 806 to 854...weird, and even two 833s). Many Blue Jays I didn't have from sets I have no cards of at all, so it was really great. Only one duplicate! Thanks a ton, if I get more Orioles I'll send them on over. Below is some of my favorites.
I'm digging the Fleer Vernon, its a rookie and a great kinda candid pic. The Bowman Chrome Vernon is also a great addition to my vastly growing collection. The Bowman Best Halladay is a rookie too, plus I'm a big fan of shiny. Roy Halladay a "ones to watch" according to Sports Illustrated and Fleer? You're damn right he's a 'ones to watch'. The Felipe Lopez is cool because its a 'retrofractor', something I've never seen or heard of, shiny on the front, old cardstock on the back. I may need more of these. Finally, this rookie fellow, Jason Perry. What is going on in this picture? why is he in an old uniform but wearing a "newer" hat? Must have run out or something. Again, a big thanks to Ryan for all this great Jays stuff.
