break details (for those on the fence...)

For those of you on the fence about the latest break, what can I do to sweeten the deal? Here are the details I released the other day:

Four slots, $60 per slot.

Rounds: (in no particular order)

- 1954 Topps $100+ (featuring the four cards I posted previously)
- four vintage rounds, with cards from 1954 to 1973 (grouped by decade)
- two auto rounds (one with veterans, one with current players)
- one relic round
- one round with legends variations from 2010 and 2011
- one 'mystery' round (not sure what it will be yet but it will be fun)

Ten rounds so far. Do I need to add more rounds? I may be able to come up with some. If any of you have ideas, lay 'em on me, so we can get this started.

another possible break

The household is in one piece. Irene didn't hit us nearly as hard as it could have, thankfully. I do hope that everyone who did experience worse than we did up here is doing good and are all unharmed.

Now, I may have an idea for another break. This would probably be my final one for a little while due to the good stuff running low. I want to make it a good one though:

Uhh...not sure why they are sideways but you get the idea. The cost this time would be $60 but I'll have four entrants and each of them can pick one of these. They all book (yes, Beckett) at over $100. Sure book value is meaningless but it is just there for example. Along with these I'll have an auto round, a second and better auto round (with a couple Hall of Famers), a few vintage rounds and maybe some more depending on what I can come up with. Yes, $60 is high, my highest ever but then again, I wasn't giving away $100 to $200 cards. It will be worth it, I'll be making sure of that. If you are possibly interested in this one, let me know in the comments and once I get a few people on board, I'll lay out the details. Namely it will give me time to gauge interest and pull some good stuff out.

round 13 (final)

Well, here we are in the final round! I hope this break was as enjoyable as you had hoped. This being the final round, with the most fun cards, I am doing something different. Everyone still gets two picks but only one pick at a time to keep things fair. See the order below.

Now let me explain what these are:

Top Row: 1939 Play Ball/1941 Play Ball
Middle Row: 1949 Bowman/1951 Bowman/1969 Topps Deckle Edge
Bottom Row: 1975 Topps/1975 Topps/1961 Fleer

When choosing your card, just say the year and brand (unless its either of the 75s), I'll know what to grab. Like I said before, do you go with the Hall of Famer or the old cards? A motley bunch for sure but there is some interesting baseball card history here. The reason I wanted to make it one pick at a time is for fairness. Just so one person doesn't end up with both 75's or both Play Balls (unless it just happens that way). I wanted a nice mix with equal chance for everyone to get something kinda old. I do want to thank everyone for their participation. I believe I have your addresses but if I don't you'll be hearing from me asking for it so I can get these out.

vintage draft break sign-ups (halfway there)

We're halfway there. Four have signed up, four slots left! See the details below. On another note, everything is sorted out for the team break that will happen a little while from now. I want to get the packing material and such before I begin that. Take part in the vintage draft for now and for those of you who this is your first, I'll go easy on you ;). Kidding, it's all very good fun.

***Details***

Eight slots here. This break will consist mainly of vintage, ranging from 1952 to 1969. There will be seven rounds of picks from those years. Everyone will get some cards from 1970 to 1975, just for participating. I have divvied up and divided them evenly over the eight slots. It was done by year, so everyone will get the same amount from each year. There will be an oddball vintage round as well, featuring cards from 1939 to 1975. Not crazy oddball but the choice may be tough. Do you pick the old card due to it's age, or the more recent card with the Hall of Famer? You decide. There will also be a relic round (all 2011 Ginter), an auto round and a random round. The random round will feature stuff that didn't fit into the other rounds. Could be relics/autos/other cool stuff.

It'll be just as fun as the past few have been, I'll see to it. Cost is $20 and if you want in let me know in the comments and you can send the payment via Paypal to my email (krustytheclown138ATyahooDOTcom), using the 'gift' option. I only have enough for eight participants, so unfortunately I cannot extend the number of slots in this break, so sign up quick!

almost there

Ok, we're down to the nitty gritty here. The consensus definitely favored picking for the final round and understandably so. Once you see what I have in there, you'll be glad you picked the ability to pick. There was a catch though. While you favored a pick for the seventh round, you also wanted another, to be fair to those that did get to pick last in that seventh round. The one catch on my end though; I have been practically run dry of relics and autos. The three randomized relics and two autos aren't anything to really gush over to make for another round of picks. I had an idea though. How about vintage? Would you guys like a round of vintage picks for the next round, round seven? Then the final round being the bigger cards? In terms of vintage I was thinking 13 cards from the early Topps era, the bigger cards, ranging from 1952 to 1956. Let me know what you think as soon as you can, so I can pull the cards, scan 'em and let you guys have at them.

ALSO- I apologize if I have been slow to respond or just plain forgot about trades, comments and other dealings with some of you. I certainly don't mean it but I'm trying to make this group break go as smoothly as possible. I haven't forgotten about you guys and I do have emails and correspondence in my 'deals' folder' in my email account, I've just been pre-occupied with this break. I will, however, be sending out everything probably at the same time. That means break packages and trades, same day.

a trade post

A trade post? Haven't done one in too long. I should post more of these, as I get many great trades. More often than not it is usually stuff I need for sets and plain old base cards are boring! Well, I am super appreciative of every card I get in a trade but some trades stand out. Especially when it involves cards you really want (like ones that get posted and you ask if they are for trade) as opposed to cards you need to slim the old want list. I'll be highlighting two such trades right now:

The first comes from Shane over at the Off the Wall blog. Here is what he sent over:

Many of you have traded with Shane before but this is actually the first time we had ever exchanged cards. The Munson was the focal point of the trade. I had seen his want list for 1975 Topps and he needed the Jim Palmer card I had. He had said the Munson was a duplicate, so I mentioned I had the Palmer. I sent that over plus some minis which he loves, and some stuff from his set needs and some random Red Sox. There were many more Blue Jays in the return package and a lot of oddball stuff I needed like the baseball highlights and Drake's cards, along with yearbook stickers and Topps Big. The black refractor is from 2002, which I have ZERO refractors for, nevermind black. Oh yeah and the Jimmy Key rookie that I didn't have yet either. I assume the three auto'd cards up top are either TTMs or in person autos. Good stuff either way. The Munson also marks the first I have from his playing days. Always good.

The second trade comes from Ryan over at "O" No!!! Another Orioles Blog. Ryan and I have traded a few times now. Check out what he had sent over:

Two cards but what cards they are. He pulled the Teixeira from his box of 2007 Goudey and I had mentioned that I was interested. It was a while ago, and we hadn't made a deal but Ryan didn't forget. Once he posted up the Willie Mays, I Knew I wanted to try and trade for it. He was interested in the Ripken bat and Markakis auto I pulled from Gypsy Queen. Those, along with stuff from his want lists, various Orioles and some other surprises made their way over to him. He should be getting that package any day now.

A big thanks to Ryan and Shane for the great cards they sent over. I'm looking forward to more trades in the future!

Also: I need card 18, Christy Mathewson from Gypsy Queen. I need multiples. Three to be exact. The first person to send over three copies of the card (regular card, not a parallel or mini) gets something awesome. Three base cards, it's all I ask. Let me know!
